Jennifer started her hairstyling career in 1983 after a two year apprenticeship in Taishan, China. In 1993, she sold her 5 salons in China and moved to the US where she worked as a stylist in San Francisco until she started Essence Salon in 2005. She studied at Vidal Sassoon Academies in London, San Francisco, Santa Monica and Shanghai, eventually earning a Certificate for delivering Sassoon In-Salon Education. She also studied at Toni & Guy Academies in Santa Monica and Hong Kong and received Aveda training in San Francisco with Jon Reyman.
Today, Jennifer spends a lot of her time learning new techniques in schools around the world and teaching Essence Salon stylists the art and science of bringing out one’s inner beauty, their “Essence” through hairstyling.
Tricia has decades of experience in cut and color. She apprenticed under some of the biggest names in Southern California and eventually became Artist for many famous personalities in Hollywood. Tricia spent a few years in Florida and then returned to California where she continued to bring her Guests happiness through her hairstyling as the Artistic Director in the salon where she worked. Tricia’s passion for her art drives her to continue her growth through advanced education at Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica.
Natasha attended cosmetology school in Los Angeles and took advanced classes at Toni & Guy in Costa Mesa. She attended one-to-one training at Vidal Sassoon in London. She has trained with celebrity hair colorists including Tracey Cunningham, Tauni Dawson and Nicole Leal. She has styled for actors, actresses and professional models in Beverly Hills. She loves doing set work at photo shoots and has worked with published photographers. Before deciding on hair artistry, she studied electrical engineering. She changed career paths when she realized: ” I was born to make things around me beautiful”.
Tiffany joined Essence Salon soon after cosmetology school and earning her license. She worked as an apprentice to Jennifer for a year while taking post graduate courses in cutting techniques for women and men at Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica. She spent the following year perfecting her styling and blow out skills. Tiffany is passionate about her profession and so she attends Sassoon and other courses often to keep abreast of trends and to hone her impressive skills. She loves giving her guests a style that brings out their inner beauty.
Sachie began practicing her art in Tokyo, Japan over a decade ago. After years of experience, she started her own hairstyling business. Five years later, she moved to the United States and continued practicing her art. Sachie is passionate about Guest service and delivers results that keep people coming back. She continues her education through post graduate courses at Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica and in-salon cut and color classes.
Kelly’s passion for hair styling started when she was a little girl in Vietnam. Years later, she graduated from Cosmetology school before coming to the US. After graduating with honors, she worked in Asia then in the Bay area for several years before coming to Essence Salon in 2013. Since joining the Essence team, Kelly has completed a six month in-house training program, Cut & Color classes at Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, one-on-one coaching with our Creative Director, Jennifer and several classes abroad.
Jimmy was born and raised in San Jose where he attended Cosmetology school. He was drawn to the industry by his love of people and the art form. He draws immense personal satisfaction by working with his Guests to bring out their inner beauty and in the process, creating a very personal artwork for them. Jimmy has traveled across the country to study under some of the biggest names in the industry including Jon Reyman in Boston and many masters at the Energizing Summit for Color in LA. He has also attended the Vidal Sassoon Academy in San Francisco. He plans on continuing his education through Sassoon Academies and in-salon training.
Rebecca grew up right here in Mountain View. She learned her craft at Mountain View Beauty College and the College of San Mateo. She has decades of experience since then and continues to learn and grow by taking post graduate classes offered through Toni & Guy, Sassoon, Redken and Schwarzkopf. She was drawn to the industry because it allows her to be creative and to get to know people.
Sarah attended Paul Mitchell, The School in San Jose where she graduated at the top of her class. She joined our team soon after and began one on one training with Jennifer. She also attended Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica and took Schwarzkopf color classes in the salon. She came to the business because “an awesome cut and color is a great way to bring people happiness” and Sarah loves to bring it.
